'Yellow jacket fisherman' urges fellow anglers to keep it clean

Friends call out Brampton man for picking up trash at hot fishing spot

Friends say Haoxin Yang is known as the "yellow jacket fisherman" because he always gets jumbo perch and of course - he wears a bright yellow jacket.

The Brampton man has been hooked on fishing at Barrie's waterfront since 2012, mostly in the fall.

"Nice view. Clear water," he said, looking out at a sparkling Kempenfelt Bay with a bright blue sky.

Yang is on vacation this week but he's been fishing and working at the waterfront.

The truck driver has collected big bags of trash left behind by other anglers at his favourite Heritage Park fishing spot.

Friend and Barrie resident Kevin Li always participates in the annual waterfront cleanup and wanted to give Yang a shout-out for keeping the hot fishing spot, well, spotless.

"I would like to tell people to learn from Mr. Yang so we can maintain a nice popular fishing spot in Barrie," said Li.

The modest Yang has been driving back and forth from Brampton every day to fish in Barrie while he's on holiday.

He was reluctant to be recognized for his good deed but has a friendly message for his fellow fishers.

"I hope everyone picks up their litter. Keep it clean."
