A workplace outbreak has been declared at Barrie Transit after three drivers became infected with COVID-19 in less than a week.

On Thursday afternoon, the city announced the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit had advised MVT, which holds the Barrie Transit contract, "that a workplace outbreak has been declared because the driver who tested positive yesterday could be linked to the second driver who tested positive on Saturday."

COVID cases among transit drivers were announced by the city on April 9, April 10 and April 14.

No additional cases have been detected since Wednesday, the city says.

The health unit "continues to support the health polices and practices that Barrie Transit has in place, and as a result they believe the risk of spread is low," the city said in a release.

Barrie Transit will continue operate as normal and maintain current service levels, the news release added.
