Women at the Helm Regatta puts wind in Hospice Simcoe's sails

Barrie Yacht Club event helps increase opportunities for women in sailing while having fun and raising money

The Barrie Yacht Club recently held its 16th annual Barrie Ford Women at the Helm Regatta.

The July 13 event raised more than $7,000 for Hospice Simcoe in one day.

The regatta helps increase opportunities for women in sailing while having fun and raising money.

This Thursday, the club will host its sail-past for the graduating class of their summer sailing camp. The yacht club runs two-week summer sailing camps for youth aged eight to 17 during July and August.

The sail-past is a navy tradition. The campers sail past the club and their commodore then salutes them. Campers also take their parents out for a sail in the dinghys.

The club also holds dinghy races on Monday nights, adult learn to sail nights on Tuesday nights, and the weekly club racing series on Wednesdays. They also have Lake Simcoe interclub races.

The Barrie Yacht Club is located at 1 Johnson St.
