Thursday’s winter blast caused a few commuter headaches around the city, but Barrie police are reminding people to be prepared for much of the same Friday.

While residents shovelled out of Thursday’s heavy snowfall, those who had to head out onto the roads were being asked to take care in doing so.

Across the city, there were 11 collisions with nine heading straight to the collision reporting centre at Barrie police headquarters.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that only two crashes, both on the south end, required police response.

“Police responded to collisions on Saunders Road and Welham Road at Big Bay Point,” said Leon. “Thankfully, none of the reported collisions were serious and everyone was OK.”

The advice from Barrie police is the same as it always is whenever there's a snow storm in the region. And with another advisory set for an overnight snowfall, Leon hopes commuters will take all the necessary precautions.

“Truthfully, the best thing to do is stay home if you can,” he said. “But if you can’t, just give yourself plenty of time. Why put too much pressure on yourself? I know folks have to get to work or errands, but if it is too bad, nothing is as important as your safety.”

Leon also suggests checking on neighbours who may be in need of assistance during these weather events.
