Wintry blast in Barrie (7 photos)

First big snowfall of 2017

The region's first big wintry blast brought near white out conditions in Barrie several times throughout the day.

The snowfall slowed traffic to a crawl on slippery roads and had pedestrians watching their footing while bracing against high winds of the snow squalls.

School buses and vans in the North Zone were cancelled which meant a snow day for students in Elmvale, Orillia, Penetanguishene and Midland.

City crews were out in their plows clearing the snow off roads and sidewalks.

Environment Canada says the squalls will begin to ease Wednesday morning.
