NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE
***************************
City of Barrie residents are encouraged to share their feedback about the community’s needs and interests for St. Vincent Park through a public consultation process.

The park’s playground and amenities will be updated this year as part of Barrie’s Playground Revitalization Program.

The city aims to revitalize existing traditional play spaces to meet the needs and interests of residents, while offering new, vibrant, and engaging experiences for all.

St. Vincent Park is a neighbourhood and waterfront park located at 65 Blake St. It’s approximately two acres in size and contains mature trees, a newly renovated washroom facility, a large shade shelter, and playground.

The city’s vision is to integrate play opportunities within existing parks to:

  • encourage social, physical, and mental engagement of persons of all ages and abilities
  • foster motor, sensory, creative, and social skills
  • provide excitement and challenge
  • connect visitors to the park with year-round access to nature

Members of the public are invited to share their input on changes to St. Vincent Park in the following ways:

  • participate in online surveys (the first survey to gather playground concept ideas is now open for feedback; a second survey will take place in late February to get input on the playground design concepts)
  • join a virtual Public Information Centre (PIC) meeting on February 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn about what the City has heard from the community and view the playground concept designs
  • share your ideas or ask questions on Building Barrie
  • Visit St. Vincent Park and add your ideas to the on-site chalkboard

Feedback for this project must be received by Feb. 27. Once all public input is gathered, a preferred concept and detailed design will come forward in late spring, and then construction of the new playground will take place this summer.

Visit buildingbarrie.ca/StVincentPark for more information, to fill out the surveys, to share your thoughts, and to register for the upcoming PIC meeting.
