Six new life-saving stations at beachfront

WASAGA BEACH – There will be six new life-saving stations at the beachfront this summer thanks to a partnership between the Town of Wasaga Beach and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

“I am extremely pleased to see that we are moving forward with this investment. This is something we have worked closely on with officials from the province. I want to thank the provincial government for seeing the value of these stations,” Mayor Brian Smith said.

One of the new stations will be placed at Beach Area One on the spit at the mouth of the Nottawasaga River, three will be erected at Beach Area Two, and two stations will be placed at Beach Area Five.

Currently, a life-saving station can be found at Spruce Street, another is at Third Street, and there is also a station at Beach Area Five at 30th Street.

Each life-saving station is signed and contains a shepherd’s hook and a buoy.

“Safety at our beachfront is something that is extremely important to the municipality. I hope that as we move forward we can have even more of these life-saving stations,” Mayor Smith said. “And once the ministry has signed off on our agreement for the town to manage Beach One and Two, I hope that we can work towards having lifeguard stations at these beach areas.”
