Volunteers take part in community cleanup at Innisfil Beach (8 photos)

Community volunteers came out on Sunday morning to help clean up Innisfil Beach Park

Local residents got a head start on the town's annual Pitch-In Day over the weekend at Innisfil Beach Park, cleaning up garbage and tidying up the gardens.

On Sunday morning, a group of volunteers and community members met at the beach with garbage bags and gloves to help beautify the park.

"Jump-start Pitch-in Day at Innisfil Beach Park was a definite success," says volunteer and organizer Carol Griffith. "The weather was surely a highlight for residents as they covered the park in grids. The gardens at the entrance were cleaned to begin the season of rebirth."

A total of 22 youth came out for the event.

"They were as appreciative of the volunteer hours as we all were for them to attend," said Griffith. "The efforts by all were visible by residents and non-residents alike who were enjoying a beautiful day at the gem of Innisfil."

Members of council Deputy Mayor Dan Davidson and Coun. Kenneth Fowler also showed up to assist with the clean-up.

"Their help along with other residents tending to the gardens were greatly appreciated. I think it speaks volumes when those representing those who elected them go the extra mile," said Griffith. "Today's event was residents coming together for a common goal...just caring about our town and the world we live in."

Griffith is hoping to arrange another community clean-up day in the next month. Local schools will be notified for students to sign up and acquire volunteer hours.

She is also hoping more will participate in the town's annual Pitch-In day on Saturday, May 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information on how to get involved, click here
