Residents are being asked to avoid the area of Yonge Street and D’Ambrosio Drive due to a serious motor vehicle collision.

Multiple people have been transported to hospital after the collision which occurred Saturday morning after 9 a.m. The road is closed at this time and motorists are asked to please avoid the area.

“Two vehicles were involved,” said Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon, adding that a reconstruction unit is attending the scene which will mean the area will likely continue to be closed to traffic for the time being.

“The road will be closed for an indefinite amount of time,” he said.

Leon told BarrieToday that one person sustained serious injuries and was transported to the local hospital along with “a number” of others.

“It was pretty serious in nature,” he said.

Leon said the investigation into the collision is still in the early stages, and it was too soon to tell yet whether any charges would be laid in relation to the incident.

“Right now, we’re most concerned with the well-being of the people involved,” he said. “Secondly, to deal with the investigation at the scene so we can eventually get the road cleaned up and re-opened.”
