Barrie police is investigating following a robbery this afternoon at the CIBC located at Yonge Street and Big Bay Point Road in the city's south end.

"We had two people enter the bank and make a demand for cash," said Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon, adding the culprits were male, but no other description was available.

"A quantity of currency was obtained," he said.

It's unclear if weapons were used in the hold-up, but the investigation remains in its early stages, Leon said. Forensic identification officers are also helping at the scene.

No one sustained any serious injuries from the robbery, Leon said, but one person did suffer a fall-type injury.

"I'm not sure of all the circumstances," he said.

Police responded to the robbery call around 2:30 p.m.

"Our officers arrived fairly quickly, but by that point the people carrying out the robbery had fled," Leon said.

Canine and tactical support officers were also called to the scene.

"They tracked from the parking lot to an empty parking space, so there was a vehicle involved," said Leon, adding officers are still canvassing the area for possible surveillance footage which could help identify the suspect vehicle.

Police say the bank will remain closed for the ongoing investigation.

More information is expected to be released in the morning.
