Three new members welcomed to Waypoint Board of Directors

Three new members have been appointed to Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care’s Board of Directors.

Taking on the role of Chair is John Barrett-Hamilton. John is the retired director of Huronia Historical Parks and former member of the Penetanguishene General Hospital Board. He is no stranger to Waypoint, having served as the hospital’s inaugural Chair in 2008 following divestment from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

“John is a compassionate and caring individual who has remained an avid supporter and donor to Waypoint,” says Carol Lambie, Waypoint President and CEO. “We have continued to count on John’s involvement and look forward to his leadership as we move forward with our Mission and Vision and work to achieve our strategic goals.”

Also joining the board are Ray Millar and Eric Preston. Ray is the former mayor of Tiny Township and a firefighter with Toronto Fire Services. He brings a unique combination of experience as an elected official, emergency service provider and engaged community member.

Eric Preston is also no stranger to the mental health care system, having worked as the vice-president of human resources and organizational development at the Centre for Addiction in Mental Health in Toronto. Eric is a trained facilitator and Principal of the Osbourne Group and has worked with many hospitals and community organizations.

“Both Ray and Eric have held a variety of board positions and their skills and experience will be a fantastic complement to our existing board members and the hospital as a whole,” says Lambie.

Also taking on a new role with the board as Vice-Chair is Susan Plewes. “Susan joined the board last June and her extensive experience in healthcare planning from working with the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN will enhance our capacity to effectively plan for the future. Her expertise and experience will be a tremendous asset in her new role.”

Waypoint also extends its sincerest thanks as to a number of retiring board members Betty Valentine, Doris Shirriff, Fred Flood, Roger Robitaille and Tony Vipond who have brought a tremendous wealth of skills, experience and knowledge in the time they have served.

“Each of these members brought their own unique professional experiences and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the hospital. They certainly made a difference and their expertise and knowledge will be missed.”
