ORO-MEDONTE – The Township of Oro-Medonte is developing a process for public engagement that includes a focus on enhanced communications.

The Public Engagement Strategy will identify tools to assist in our efforts to increase opportunities for the public to provide input into specific non-legislated corporate projects impacting Oro-Medonte.

Customer satisfaction surveys conducted in 2014 identified a need to enhance communications, which Council made a priority in the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan that was endorsed at the January 13 Council meeting. Based on this feedback, staff began the process of updating the existing Communications Strategy.

“The development and implementation of a Public Engagement Strategy aligns with an updated Communications Strategy. It is an opportunity to enhance the Township’s interaction with residents and stakeholders,” said Donna Hewitt, Director, Corporate & Strategic Initiatives. “We want to hear from the community. Their input and feedback into the criteria of the engagement process is key in helping us determine ways for our community to be more involved in matters that are important to them,” she said.

Recognizing the importance of public engagement, the Township has already taken steps towards increasing opportunities for public input.

An updated Procedural By-law came into effect on January 1, 2016 that includes an opportunity for the public to provide written comments related to agenda items.

Once the Council agenda is posted online, written comments about an agenda item may be submitted.

The correspondence will be added to the agenda on the Township’s website in advance of the meeting and received at the meeting, if submitted to the Clerk’s office by the specified deadline.
