Kempenfelt Community Players’ third show of the season, Closer Than Ever, is playing at Ferndale Banquet Hall from May 2 through May 5, 2018, with evening shows, dinner theatre options and a matinee performance. It is a riveting song cycle that explores the everyday trials, joys and humorous moments of love in the modern world.

The lights come up on four people standing behind doors. They are modern, timeless, urban, hip, sophisticated, lost and awestruck by the overwhelming choices before them. Where will these doors lead? Some doors open while others close; some doors lead to happiness while others lead to sadness; some choices are good while others are bad.

The closed doors of unrequited love – a man bemoans unreturned love while the lady in question pines after another man, who yearns for the first man. A man tells a woman she’s a goddess, and then proceeds to break up with her.

An obsession with a woman drives a man to do crazy things. A woman pays a jazzy, tongue-in-cheek tribute to her bass-playing boyfriend. Whatever the case, life continues and doors to new experiences forever lie ahead.

Audiences will find themselves pausing for self-reflection while caught up in the laughter and sincerity of each unique song and life situation.
