Sunset Drive-In delays opening to work out 'logistics problem'

'It is simply a logistics problem, nothing to do with the projectors, screens or anything here at the drive-in,' said GM

Sunset Barrie Drive-In Theatre has been forced to delay its much-anticipated Friday opening until Saturday to work out some glitches.

Manager David Hayes told BarrieToday that the head office was having a few issues with the online ticket sale option and wanted some time to get it worked out.

“It is simply a logistics problem, nothing to do with the projectors, screens or anything here at the drive-in,” said Hayes. “I got it working from my end but am just waiting for approval from the head office.”

The drive-in hasn’t been open this season due to the COVID-19 health crisis but had decided earlier this week that Friday would be the day of the grand opening. With tickets being sold solely online, some minor details were still being finalized.

“We can’t sell onsite, so we have to make sure every payment option is working for online sales. Making sure a refund option correctly works and anything else,” said Hayes.

“It wouldn’t be good if someone came from Collingwood and needed a refund for some reason and we couldn’t offer it immediately.”

Hayes said Saturday will now be the big day for movie lovers and for everyone heading out to the Shanty Bay location to head to the website for more information throughout the day.
