The holiday season is a special time of year for many. It’s a time for festive celebrations, the warmth and comfort of being with those you love and a time to share in the season of joy and good will.

Like many, the anticipation of finding their personalized wish lists gift wrapped and tagged under the tree adds to the excitement and magic of Christmas morning.

For the Georgian Kodiaks, a local youth competitive bowling team in Barrie, comprised of players ages 18-21, the spirit of Christmas means giving back. They wanted to do something special by putting smiles on the faces of seniors alone over the Holidays.

After reaching out to the Senior Wish Association to be a part of their Christmas Wish program, the team came together with other youth bowlers across Southern Ontario with one goal in mind – finding and donating gifts for seniors so they too will experience the magic of Christmas morning.

Over the last number of weeks, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the season, bowling competitions and personal commitments, the Georgian Kodiaks, led by program coordinator, Lee Anne Wilkins, did just that and on Monday, Dec. 10 at Bowlerama in Barrie, they made a special presentation of their donated items to Theresa McRae of the Senior Wish Association’s Christmas Wish campaign.

From puzzles, games, books and pillows to warm socks, blankets, treats and toiletries, the outpouring of thoughtful gift giving will make a lasting impression on the hearts of seniors this Christmas.

“We are always so appreciative of donations like this to our Christmas Wish campaign”, says Lucille Dalziel of the Senior Wish Association. “The thoughtfulness, time and effort these young people made to help us ensure no senior is forgotten is a great example of what the spirit of giving is all about”, adds Dalziel.

YBOWL & Kodiaks program coordinator, Lee Anne Wilkins adds “I am so proud and inspired by these young people who really felt it important to give something back to a generation that gave us so much. To me, understanding and appreciating the need and working toward a goal of making a difference in the life of a senior makes not only the Season extra special, but this group of young adults extra special too.”
