Loblaws and Instacart are bringing grocery delivery to Barrie and with it more than 100 job opportunities.

Instacart and Loblaws first launched in Toronto last December.

Starting tomorrow, Barrie area residents will soon be able to order from local Loblaws and Zehrs and have their groceries delivered to their doorsteps that day.

"Instacart is the first grocery delivery service in Barrie that can provide same-day delivery of groceries and everyday essentials in as little as an hour," said Dacyl Armendariz, Communications for Instacart.

"Most of our customers say they don’t have time to shop – they are busy with work, kids, and life in general. Instacart also provides our aging population and the disabled with a solution to conveniently have groceries delivered straight to their door. “The sandwich generation” — people caring for their own family as well as aging parents — use Instacart to send groceries and everyday essentials to loved ones. Instacart gives customers back something truly valuable: time."

During the checkout process, customers are provided with one-hour time frames to choose from - for example 5 - 6 p.m., 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.  Customers can schedule their delivery for the time that works best for their schedules, in as little as an hour or scheduled up to five days in advance.

For orders of $35 or more, the delivery fee is $3.99 plus a 7.5 per cent service fee. Customers can save money over time by signing up for Instacart Express membership, which enables unlimited, free same-day delivery on orders of $35 or more.  After a free trial period, Instacart Express membership is $9.99 a month or $99 a year.

First time users can also enter the code HIBARRIE (4/20/18 expiration) at checkout to get $20 off an order of $35 or more, plus a free first time delivery.

The shopping process is performed by the Instacart Shoppers, who hand-pick the items customers have in their virtual baskets and deliver them straight to their doorsteps.

Instacart is also bringing income earning opportunities to the area with plans to bring on more than 100 new shoppers.

Prospective Instacart employees can apply at shoppers.instacart.ca
