St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School in south-end Barrie will host its annual Community Dinner on Wednesday, an event which usually attracts around 100 guests.

“This is the seventh-annual dinner and we think they love the event as they generally come back year after year,” said teacher-organizer Carla Morrison.

The special dinner sees Marian Poirier’s hospitality class make all of the lasagnas and serve the dinner, and then another handful of kids help out with the other parts of the dinner, such as advertising, thrift store, decorating, etc.

The parent council and staff also help out and donate to the event, Morrison said.

“It is amazing to see the generosity of the students and staff with their time and their skills,” she added. “They really show their compassion and their desire to help people less fortunate.

“We also appreciate what we have after events like this and brings us all together a little bit closer,” Morrison said.

Morrison brought the idea with her when she moved from St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie to St. Peter’s.

“I was involved with the Christmas dinner at JOA, so when I moved to St. Peter's, I suggested we start up an Easter dinner so that we could spread the help throughout the year,” she said.

It is free of charge to attend Wednesday’s dinner, which also includes desserts, coffee/tea and a thrift store.

The dinner will take place 6-8 p.m. at St. Peter’s school, located at 201 Ashford Dr.

Transportation is available for anyone who wants to attend, but has no means of getting there. Pick-up and drop-off will be at 5:30 p.m., at the downtown Salvation Army, located at 16 Bayfield St.
