Springwater Township Mayor Don Allen was due for his first court appearance today on impaired and dangerous driving charges.

Counsel for Allen asked that his case come back to the courts on Oct. 1. His counsel also received disclosure (a collection of the evidence from the prosecution and police) today.

According to a news release from Huronia West OPP issued on Aug. 6, Allen, 67, was charged with impaired and dangerous driving after a June 26 incident.

Police report they received a traffic complaint and officers responded to the call at a business parking lot on Wilson Drive in Springwater Township, where witnesses allegedly saw an impaired driver leaving the lot.

The news release said officers conducted patrols of the area, but could not locate the vehicle.

"The investigation into this occurrence has now led police to charge the driver of the vehicle," the release states.

The charges have not yet been proven in court.
