NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF SPRINGWATER

Residents are asked to burn with extreme caution as grass, twigs, leaves and other fine fuels are especially dry and easily ignited at this time of the year. As a result of the increased fire risk, the Fire Danger Rating has been set to high in Springwater.

All burning in the Township requires a permit. Recreational Burn Permits cost $15 and can be obtained online at springwater.ca/BurnPermit or in person at the Township Administration Centre. Anyone wishing to purchase their permit in person is strongly recommended to make an appointment due to current COVID-19 safety restrictions and protocols.

Residents wishing to apply for an Open Air Burn Permit are encouraged to contact Springwater Fire & Emergency Services at 705-728-4784, ext. 2016, for further information.

“Fire safety is always our top priority and having our residents obtain a permit ensures that everyone knows the rules and regulation before lighting a fire,” says Fire Chief Jeff Kirk. “We ask if you are having a campfire; you use caution, follow the rules listed on your permit and be respectful of your neighbours. Your decision to have a fire should never interfere with someone else’s enjoyment or use of their own property.”

Residents are also reminded that burning yard waste is not permitted in Springwater and could result in a $300 fine. All yard waste should be bagged and set-out on your assigned waste collection day.
