Spring wildflowers emerge in Barrie-area forests (16 photos)

Cyclists, hikers and others heading out to local trails are treated to early wildflowers

The trilliums are fading and giving way to a variety of wild spring flowers as the overhead canopy starts filling in local forests.

Off the Bass Lake Side Road, between Lines 6 and 7 in Oro-Medonte Township, the new growth creates dappled lighting over the many trails where day trippers venture on bike and on foot.

Among the spring offerings underfoot are false Solomon seals, wild geraniums, foam flowers, ferns, Jack in the pulpits and columbines.
