Six new COVID cases reported in Simcoe County schools today

With four new cases, health unit declares outbreak at St. Ann’s Catholic School in Penetanguishene; Other two cases are in Bradford

There are six new COVID-19 cases being reported at Simcoe County schools since Friday.

According to area school boards, there are 17 active COVID cases in schools in Simcoe County as of 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 4.

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board is reporting four new cases at St. Ann’s Catholic School in Penetanguishene with one additional classroom closure, adding to one case and classroom closure previously reported at the school. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared an outbreak at the school on Oct. 1.

One new case and classroom closure is being reported at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford, adding to one case and classroom closure previously reported at the school.

One new case is being reported at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford, with one classroom closed.

Within the Catholic board, there are currently 14 active cases spread across seven schools.

Total current active cases in Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board schools include:

  • Three cases at Monsignor Clair Catholic School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed
  • Five cases at St. Ann's Catholic School in Penetanguishene, with two classrooms closed
  • Two cases at St. Marie of the Incarnation Catholic School in Bradford, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic School in Bradford, with one classroom closed
  • One case at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School in Barrie
  • One case at St. Theresa’s Catholic High School in Midland, with one classroom closed

The health unit declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Monsignor Clair Catholic School on Sept. 22, which is still active.

The Simcoe County District School Board has not updated their active case list since Oct. 1.

According to Oct. 1 reporting, there are currently three active cases spread across two schools:

  • One case and classroom closure at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford
  • Two cases and one classroom closure at W.C. Little Elementary School in Barrie

An outbreak was declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at W.C. Little Elementary School on Sept. 28, and is still active.

The health unit declares a school outbreak where there is evidence of person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 at the school.
