Unsafe Ice Conditions

(Innisfil, ON) South Simcoe Police are again reminding residents and visitors to the community that the ice conditions on Lake Simcoe are not safe for recreational use.

The warm weather last week caused ice conditions on Lake Simcoe to deteriorate.

Over the weekend, several ice huts partially sank into Lake Simcoe on Cooks Bay.

On Saturday afternoon, police were notified when a trailer began to sink into the Lake near Isabella Street.

Fortunately the trailer was unoccupied at the time and nobody was injured.

Ice fishing enthusiasts are reminded that all fishing huts must be removed from Lake Simcoe by midnight on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

Although, with warm weather forecast again for this week, South Simcoe Police are highly recommending that owners remove their huts from the Lake earlier.
