BARRIE CHAPTER OF SPELLING BEE OF CANADA

Approximately ninety-five children, between the ages of 6 and 14, will be competing in the Kempenfelt Bay School/Barrie & Area Regional Spelling Bee.

The students are from all over Simcoe County, from 38 different public, Catholic, independent or home schools. They will be competing in three divisions:

  • Primary – for 6-8 year-olds
  • Junior for 9-11 year olds
  • Intermediate for 12-14 year olds (as of December 31, 2016)

The first-place winners for each division will attend the Spelling Bee of Canada National Championship in Toronto this May. Cash prizes are awarded to the first three winners in each division. 

Who- Approximately 95 students from all over Simcoe County, from 38 different public, Catholic, independent or home schools. Special guests include:

Primary Guest Speaker – Mayor Jeff Lehman

Junior Guest Speaker – Rhiannon Hoover (Grade 11 student and actor)

Intermediate Guest Speaker – Mark Faris (Realtor and former hockey player)

What- Kempenfelt Bay School/Barrie & Area Regional Spelling Bee (Barrie Chapter of Spelling Bee of Canada)

When- Saturday, Apr. 1, 2017. Each division begins with the guest speaker and concludes with a trophy presentation to the winners. End times are estimated.

  • Primary Division Competition 9 – 11 a.m.
  • Junior Division Competition 12 – 2 p.m.
  • Intermediate Division Competition 2 – 4 p.m.

Where- The gym at Kempenfelt Bay School, 576 Bryne Drive, Barrie ON

Additional Information:

The Kempenfelt Bay School/Barrie & Area Regional Spelling Bee is in it’s second year.

The event is organized by local volunteers and supported by community sponsors.

The presenting sponsor for 2017 is Oxford Learning (Barrie North, Barrie South, Bradford and Collingwood locations).

The venue is donated through the partnership with Kempenfelt Bay School, a not-for-profit independent school.
