A man accused of sexually assaulting 20-year-old Kassidi Coyle is scheduled to go on trial today in Barrie court, even though his alleged victim is deceased.

Shawn Roy, 38, of Quebec was charged with sexual assault on July 1, 2016, when Kassidi was spending the night at a friend’s house.

She took her own life three months later.

Her mother Judi successfully requested a publication ban on Kassidi's identity be lifted by the court.

A petition Petition · Kassidi's Law · Change.orgs started by Kassidi's sister calling for increased support for sexual assault survivors has garnered almost 37,000 signatures.

Chelsea Coyle says on her petition that Kassidi suffered post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but was placed on a four month wait list for counselling. She took her own life just weeks before her first appointment.
