Serious crash closes intersection (update: teen driver dies)

Update: 3:15 p.m.

A 16-year-old Innisfil boy is dead and a 15-year-old is at a Toronto trauma centre with serious injures after the motorcycle they were riding collided with another vehicle at the intersection of County Road 89 and Yonge Street.

South Simcoe police say the crash involved two teens riding one motorcycle southbound on Yonge Street and came into contact with a southbound Chrysler Pacifica in the intersection.

The two occupants were thrown from the motorcycle to the ground. 

The driver, a 16 year old Innisfil teen was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His passenger, a 15 year old Peterborough area teen was taken to a local hospital and he was later transported to a Toronto Trauma Centre with serious injuries.

The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica, a 85 year old Alliston man received minor injuries. 

Officers from the Traffic & Marine Unit were called to investigate and reconstruct the collision. Police are asking anyone with information regarding this crash to contact them at (705) 436-2141 extension 2030.  

Roads were reopened at about 3 p.m.

 Update: 12 p.m.

The intersection of Yonge Street and County Road 89 is expected to remain closed until 5 p.m. today,  after a crash involving a motorcycle in Innisfil.

South Simcoe Police say the motorcycle and an SUV collided at the intersection at around 10:30 a.m.

Two people were on the motorcycle at the time and at least one of them suffered serious injuries.

Traffic investigators will be at the scene for the next several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The closure is expected to last until 5 p.m.

Simcoe County Police say a serious collision took place at Simcoe County Road #4 (Yonge Street) at Shore Acres Drive (Highway 89).

The intersection is closed and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

Sideroad #5 or Sideroad #20 are suggested alternatives.
