Expanded GO Train service started in Barrie this month along with some changes to bus services.

On the Barrie line there are more weekday, rush-hour train trips, more coaches on busy trains and schedule adjustments for some weekend trips for improved reliability.

There will be more trips on bus routes 12, 29, and 40 to meet growing ridership demand, routes 19 and 40 will serve the Mississauga Transitway and there will be changes to bus routes 63, 65 and 68 and select other bus services.

More weekday morning trips from Barrie are:

  • The 7:15 and 7:45 a.m. southbound trips from Maple GO now begin at Allandale Waterfront at 6:05 and 6:35 a.m., making all stops, with times from Maple to Union remaining the same
  • The number of coaches have been doubled from six to 12 for these trips to help ensure there is sufficient seating to accommodate the expected increase in riders

Trip time and train size changes

  • The weekday 6:45 p.m. trip from Union Station now departs at 6:35 p.m., making all stops and arriving at Allandale Waterfront at 8:13 p.m. To provide a more comfortable ride with more seating, the number of coaches will be increased from six to 10
  • To ease crowding, the weekday 3:40 p.m. trip from Union Station now has 12 coaches instead of six and the weekday 6:05 p.m. trip from Union Station will now have 12 coaches instead of 10
  • On the Barrie weekend service, as of September 2, some schedules have been adjusted for improved reliability and better reflect actual travel times. Connecting buses will continue to hold for customers

Route 68 (Barrie/Newmarket)

All trips will now serve East Gwillimbury GO Station instead of the Newmarket Bus Terminal, giving customers in Holland Landing and area a direct connection to train service. At East Gwillimbury GO Station, connections will be available for Barrie line trains, Route 65 to Union and Route 66 to Yorkdale. Route 66 also serves the Newmarket Bus Terminal. Departure times have been adjusted on all trips to reflect this change.

A new weekday southbound trip will depart Barrie Bus Terminal at 9:50 p.m.

The weekday 5:30 a.m. and 6:35 a.m. southbound, and 5:10 p.m., 6:10 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. northbound trips will be cancelled due to low ridership. Service will now be hourly.
