Work continues on the Anne Street bridge project on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022.

A section of Anne Street, south of the ongoing bridge replacement project, will be closed for more than a month beginning Thursday.

Dufferin Construction and its sub-contractors working for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) requires a full road closure on Anne Street North between Donald Street and Henry Street from Thursday, Oct. 13 until Nov. 18 to complete work related to the new bridge being built over Highway 400.

The MTO says bridge project is "progressing well" and the new span is anticipated to be open to traffic before the end of the year.

As part of the project, the Anne/Donald intersection is also being reconstructed. This includes grading, storm sewers, sidewalks, curb, traffic signals, paving and electrical work. Therefore, the MTO’s contractor says it needs to partially close the intersection.

The intersection will be closed to westbound and southbound travelling traffic from Donald/Wellington. One lane will be maintained through the intersection for northbound/eastbound traffic from Anne to Donald/Wellington.

The city says access for residents and businesses within the closure to be maintained and emergency services will have access to respond within the closure, but not to travel through it.

A detour route will be in effect along Wellington Street West, Eccles Street, Dunlop Street West, and Anne Street.

Barrie Transit buses servicing Route 5 will detour on Donald Street. Click here for more details.

The City of Barrie operations department and its sub-contractors also require an emergency full road closure on St. Vincent Street between Penetang and Codrington streets, tentatively on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., for a sanitary sewer repair. Residents and emergency services will have access within the closure but not travel through it.
