Toronto’s legendary sketch and improv comedy theatre, The Second City, will be performing “The Best of the Second City” at the Orillia Opera House in October to raise funds for the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.

The show features the best sketches and songs from The Second City’s repertoire as well as its trademark improv sessions. The cast includes Mark Breslin’s 2017 Up and Coming Comedian to Watch, Christian Smith, Sketcherson’s cast member Matt Folliott, Natalie Metcalfe, the winner of the 2016 World’s Biggest Improv Tournament, Jillian Welsh, who was named by NOW Magazine as one of the top 10 artists to watch in the 2017 Toronto Fringe, Phatt Al, the leading rapper of the Juno-nominated NuFunk, 2017 Slamdance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize winner Clare McConnell, and live musical accompaniment by award-winning pianist Mark Bond.

“It’s going to be great,” says event organizer Dr. Tim Hillson, an eye surgeon based in Orillia. “It’s a very funny, very fast-moving show that you would normally have to drive to Toronto to see, and the profits go to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation, so I’m expecting a full house.”

Early-purchase tickets for “The Best of the Second City” are $35 and can be purchased at orilliaoperahouse.ca or at the opera house box office. After Sept. 30, the ticket price increases to $40.

The show is on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
