Same old Ranch, but with some new twists

While plenty of the mainstays at the downtown bar have remained, new owner says he also has some new things in the works

The Ranch 2.0 was officially rebranded on Bayfield Street today.

Owner Ed Rios, who took ownership of the downtown bar on Oct. 12, 2018, told BarrieToday he wanted to maintain the bar's name and tradition, while still building it up.

"It has been a little bit of a change," Rios said Friday afternoon, with his son, Abraham Miller-Rios, nearby who will be serving as his partner in the business.

With local dignitaries on hand for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, Rios says pretty much everything on the menu — primarily Mediterranean and South American cuisine — is made in-house. He said the idea is to provide what's essentially a home-cooked meal.

"It should be interesting," said Rios, who emigrated from Ecuador in 1983. "Everything is made fresh, right down to the cutting our own meat, and we do our own sauces."

Michel Lacasse, who formerly worked at Casino Rama, has been brought in as executive chef at The Ranch 2.0.

The bar's weekly entertainment schedule includes an open-mic night on Tuesday, including Jayme Lynn Reed, with a comedy night in the works for Wednesdays. Thursdays are live entertainment, primarily acoustic sets of all genres, while Fridays will often feature various concerts. Saturdays are for country music nights, and on Sunday they host their open-buffet brunch.

Rios says he also has some other tricks up his sleeve, but wasn't ready to make the official announcement just yet.
