Strong and reliable infrastructure is essential to the proper function of a community. Ontario is committed to supporting municipalities in their development and repair of infrastructure, and has announced new funding for two local townships.

The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) is investing $741,961 in the Township of Springwater, and $247,539 in the Township of Oro-Medonte for a grand total of $1,016,500.

“This is a great investment that will improve services in our region,” said Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte. “These are two thriving communities that will need to increase their infrastructure capacity in the coming years. Investments like this give our local communities a head start, and ensure they can continue to provide their residents the great service they have come to expect.”

“I am pleased that the province recognizes the unique infrastructure challenges of rural communities,” said Oro-Medonte Mayor Harry Hughes. “Support from the province will be utilized to complete rehabilitation of the 5/6 Sideroad, which serves as an east/west corridor to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, and Georgian College. OCIF funding augments the 2020 township’s four per cent budget allocation to help bridge the infrastructure gap.”

The County of Simcoe also received infrastructure funding through this program. The county will receive a total investment of $2,417,214.

The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund invested $200 million in 424 small, rural, and northern communities. Providing them the stable and predictable funding they need to build and repair critical infrastructure.

From 2015 to 2018, OCIF invested $324 million in 2,300 critical infrastructure projects throughout Ontario.
