Power out to 5,300 in south end (update)

Update: At around 11:30 a.m., Alectra reported all power had now been restored in Barrie. If you are still without power, you can call 1-833-ALECTRA.

Thousands of people are without power Sunday morning in Barrie. 

According to Alectra, more than 5,300 customers are affected by the widespread power outage, mainly in the city’s south end. 

The affected areas of the city include parts of Ardagh Road, Bryne Drive, Big Bay Point Road, County Road 27, Dunlop Street West, Essa Road, Fairview Road, Ferndale Drive, Mapleton Avenue and Mapleview Drive West, as well as numerous side streets in those areas.

There has been no cause announced for the outage and the problem remains under investigation.

The estimated time for power to be restored is between 2 and 4 p.m. today.
