Police seek suspects in theft from Jug City (update: arrest made)

August 29 update

The investigating officer collected many tips via social media tips and has successfully made an arrest in the incident.

A 21-year-old Barrie male was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000. The female suspect was identified and released without charges.

July 12 original release

Police are seeking witnesses to assist with identifying two suspects following a theft at Jug City Convenience Store, located on Essa Road, in the City of Barrie.

Video surveillance captured a male and female enter the store just before 9 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2016.

The female suspect had taken the time to distract the employee several times while the male suspect walked to the back of the store and crouched down pretending to browse for items on a shelf.

Although, it was brought to the male’s attention several times by the store employee that the items he had been looking at were not for sale and that shelf was specifically for storage.

The male is captured on video surveillance selecting a bundle lottery tickets from a box on the shelf and placing them into the front pouch of his hoodie.

He is then seen walking towards the front of the store and exiting with the female. The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect(s) are described as:

Suspect # 1

  • Male, white
  • Thin build, 20-30 years old
  • Dark hair
  • Wearing a black baseball hat, grey hooded sweatshirt, green/beige shorts and black shoes.

Suspect # 2

  • Female, white
  • Thin build, 20-30 years old
  • Brown hair pulled back into a ponytail
  • Wearing a white headband, pink sweatshirt, grey track pants and carrying a black purse.
