Police remain tight-lipped regarding shooting in Angus

Nottawasaga OPP is investigating following a shooting Tuesday evening in Angus

ESSA TWP. — A shooting on a quiet residential street in Angus on Tuesday is still the scene of a criminal investigation today, as Nottawasaga OPP police tape cordoned off the area.

On Tuesday, July 23 at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers responded to an incident involving a gun on Alessio Drive in Angus, which is located about 20 minutes west of Barrie.

BarrieToday was on the scene Wednesday afternoon and spoke to OPP Const. Chad Wilson. He would not comment on whether anyone anyone has been arrested, or if a search was still underway.

“Tuesday evening, we responded to reports of an incident involving a firearm on the front lawn between these two homes,” Wilson said. “The public has no reason to be afraid.

"I cannot comment on any other details of the investigation at this time," he added.

Angus resident Carol Nevils has lived five houses up from where the incident took place for 28 years and has never experienced anything like this. However, she told BarrieToday she's not worried about what happened.

"I’ve been here since 1991 and am the original owner of this home. Nothing like this has ever happened here before,” Nevils said. “I’m not too concerned at all, though. The area is very good, it's safe. I am surprised, but not afraid.”

On October 28 of 2018, shots were fired into two occupied residences on Admiral Crescent, less than five minutes from Alessio Drive. In that incident, there were no injuries reported but one of the bullets came within inches of a sleeping toddler.

Another resident of the area, who only identified himself as Earl, told BarrieToday he's not afraid, either, nor is he overly surprised.

“Nowhere is quiet anymore. I’m not saying this street is bad, far from it, but this stuff happens everyday in all the places you would expect it not to,” he said. “I’m not complaining, I love living here, but this isn’t new and we are seeing it more and more on the news in all the little towns we never thought we’d see it.”
