Police continue to seek leads into the disappearance of Mandy Thompson

The investigation into her disappearance is ongoing and continues to be treated as a missing person’s investigation

On Friday, February 3, 2017, just after 7:30 a.m., 72-year-old Mandy Thompson went missing from her residence on Laidlaw Drive, in the City of Barrie.

Extensive searches throughout the City of Barrie and into Oro-Medonte Township were carried out during the month of February and again, on March 1 and April 18, 2017. 

Several tips were received which led Investigators to obtaining video surveillance that captured Mandy walking north-bound on Penetanguishene Road, the morning of her disappearance at 10:00 a.m. Vehicle canvases along Penetanguishene Road were conducted and with assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police and Georgian Bay Volunteer Search & Rescue, ground and aerial searches were conducted, which encompassed the north-east end of Barrie and into Oro-Medonte Township.

The investigation into her disappearance is ongoing and continues to be treated as a missing person’s investigation. Investigators continue to work closely with the Thompson family who have stated; "After a difficult year our family continues to hope for closure to find Mandy; a beloved wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, sister and friend. We would appeal to anyone who may have seen something but never called it in because they may have thought it was too late or insignificant, we ask them to call police now or call Crime Stoppers if they want to remain anonymous. Mandy's family would like to express their gratitude to Barrie Police Service, OPP, South Simcoe Police Service, Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue, the media, the community of Barrie and surrounding area, our friends and anyone who helped search for Mandy and/or shared the posts and information on social media."

Mandy is described as;

  • Medium build
  • Short red-brown hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Wearing a black knee length jacket, white sweater, jeans and white running shoes.
