Barrie Police investigate double shooting

Two men wounded in 'targeted' shooting

Barrie Police are hunting for a suspect following a double shooting on Hickling Trail in the city's east end.

Police believe two men were shot during an altercation outside a home between 5 and 6 p.m.

County of Simcoe Paramedics did not transport the victims who made their own way to hospital.

"At 5:40 p.m. police received a call from RVH saying two men have arrived with gunshot wounds," said Barrie Police Const. Sarah Bamford.  "The injuries are non-life-threatening."

Bamford says the victims are a 21-year-old and 22-year-old from Barrie.

Police can't confirm how many shots were fired but do not believe the incident is random.

"We believe the shooting was targeted," she said.

"The investigation is in its very early stages. We're going to be holding the scene through the night."

Barrie Fire and Emergency Service was called to the scene to investigate a possible 'noxious' substance in the home but the fire department cleared after those concerns were alleviated.

The fire department confirmed there was no risk to public safety, according to an officer on scene.

Police closed the area of Hickling Trail between Fletcher Dr. and Maitland Dr. as worried and curious neighbours gathered outside the yellow tape.

It's the second shooting in Barrie in just over a week.

A 28-year-old Barrie man suffered serious injuries when he was shot on Mulcaster Street on Aug. 13.

Police have issued warrants for two men in that case.

Wanted are Dylan Brown, a 24-year-old, of London, Ont. and Max Cameron Pritchett, a 21-year-old Barrie resident.
