It’s back to Square 1 for the People’s Party of Canada in the Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte (BSOM) riding as Karmangah Tait has withdrawn his name as the party's candidate in the upcoming federal election.
Six days after announcing the 23-year-old Tait would represent the PPC in the October election, the party is now without a candidate.
Tait reached out to BarrieToday on Wednesday afternoon and said he's bowing out due to time constraints.
“Mainly because of the time commitments, I have to announce that I am withdrawing my name from the candidacy,” he said. “I do plan on staying on until they can find a replacement, but I just find that running isn’t in my best interests or the party’s.”
BarrieToday contacted the party's riding association president, Daniel Boucher, who had not yet heard Tait was pulling out.
“That’s news to me," Boucher said. "I haven’t spoken to my candidate recently, so I am going to have to say no comment at this time. It’s obviously not good news.”
The federal election is set for Oct. 21.
