11:10 p.m. update

On Sunday the 8th of November, at approximately 5:34 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the southbound lanes of Bayfield Street south of Hamner Street.

A 45-year-old Barrie male was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

Sadly the male has succumbed to his injuries.

The Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating and are urging anyone who may have witnessed this accident to contact Constable Chris Allport at (705) 725-7025.

Bayfield Street is now open in both directions

Original story 6:44 p.m.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on Bayfield Street near the intersection of Hamner Street.

The victim has been transported to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre with severe injuries.

Members of the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit are on scene investigating.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area as Bayfield St. is closed at Hamner St. in both directions until further notice.
