Parts of downtown will have no running water Thursday

Interruption in water service is required for watermain work as part of the ongoing Dunlop Street corridor improvements

Dunlop Street East residents and businesses can expect to be dry for several hours on Thursday.

The City of Barrie has issued a notice regarding an interruption in water service from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

However, this 12-hour window is considered a "worst-case scenario due to winter conditions" and if any issues arise during the work. Water is expected to be restored sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., provided there are no unforeseen problems.

The water will be shut off from 50 Dunlop St. E. to Mulcaster Street, and Owen Street from Collier Street to Dunlop East.

The temporary shutdown is required for the city's water operations branch to perform work on the watermain as it relates to the ongoing Dunlop Street East corridor improvements.

During the noted times, water will not be available until work is complete.

Upon restoration, the water supply may be discoloured. The city asks that people run cold water tap in their tub, or a cold water faucet, for several minutes to clean the water. People are also being asked to check their water meter for any leaks.

The city also advises people to turn off equipment operated by water during the interruption, such as water-cooled air conditioners, boilers, washing machines, dishwashers, water softeners bypass, etc.
