NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF BARRIE
*************************
The City of Barrie’s free downtown parking ends next Monday, but there are other options that will allow residents and visitors to support local after this time.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, two-hour free parking will be back in effect as part of the We Dig Downtown Dunlop Street construction project. Two hours of free parking will be available in the Chase McEachern Way lot (including the 15 Bayfield St. lot) and the Maple Avenue Central parking lot until the end of the construction project. You must print a receipt from the machine and display it on your vehicle dashboard to be eligible for free two-hour parking in these lots.

Most downtown lots are five minutes or less walking distance to where the road is closed.

Parking rates
Downtown parking rates are enforced 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Downtown parking is free on evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, Easter Monday, and the August Civic Holiday.

$1.25 per hour on-street
$1 per hour off-street, $5.50 daily max
(exception: Collier Street Parkade is $1.25 per hour with no daily maximum)

Other downtown parking options
Until further notice, on-street parking spaces along Dunlop St. and side streets are temporarily designated as loading only zones under the Traffic By-law. This limits parking to standing for 10 minutes or less, which helps businesses and customers use curbside pickup and helps maintain traffic flow in the area. Visit barrie.ca/DowntownParking for more information.

Support local
The Barrie community has shown an outpouring of support to local businesses during the pandemic, and we encourage everyone to continue to shop and support local. Together, we can build a stronger local economy by supporting Barrie businesses.

The Exploring Barrie Together video series was created to champion, highlight, and showcase some of Barrie's new and longstanding local businesses. We invite residents to share their favourite local places to shop, eat and explore using #BarrieTogether on social media.
