Oro-Medonte residents urged to 'paint the township red' for Hometown Hockey

The Township of Oro-Medonte has been selected as a tour stop for the eighth season of Rogers Hometown Hockey. In partnership with Horseshoe Resort, the event will take place Nov. 6-8, 2021 at Horseshoe Resort located at 1101 Horseshoe Valley Rd.

In preparation for this exciting festival celebrating the Canadian tradition of hockey, residents and businesses in Oro-Medonte are encouraged to show their community spirit by decorating their homes (i.e. front porches, lawns, windows, vehicles etc.), and business store front windows with hockey and Canada decorations using a red and white theme.

The kick-off to Paint the Township Red will begin on Monday, Nov. 1, running until the conclusion of the Rogers Hometown Festival on Monday, Nov. 8.

To share your community spirit with others, and to showcase the wonderful community of Oro-Medonte, please take photos of your decorated homes and businesses and share on social media. Please tag the Township of Oro-Medonte & Rogers Hometown Hockey and use hashtag #OroMedonteHomeTownHockey in your social media posts.

Mayor Harry Hughes commented: “Township council and staff are thrilled to be a host community for Rogers Hometown Hockey. This is a very exciting festival celebrating a historical Canadian sport that is part of so many families and homes in the community. On behalf of the Township, I personally encourage Oro-Medonte residents and business owners to use creativity, and decorate their homes and businesses, in preparation for what promises to be a fun and successful outside festival, with COVID-19 health and safety measures in place.”

Rogers Hometown Hockey is a free township wide family-friendly festival offering interactive hockey related experiences including: Augmented Reality (AR), live entertainment, NHL alumni meet & greets, culinary options, partner experiences, and much more.

Festival hours are Saturday, Nov. 6 and Sunday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will also be a live on-site broadcast with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone on Monday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. with stories that celebrate hockey history and culture that puts Oro-Medonte on Canada’s hockey map, prior to the Los Angeles Kings at Toronto Maple Leafs game.
