Public Health Ontario has reported 1,076 new cases of COVID-19 today (Feb. 12).
Today's report includes 18 new deaths, eight were residents at long-term care homes.
The deaths reported today include two people between 40 and 59 years old, five people between the ages of 60 and 79 years old, and 11 people over the age of 80.
The province has reported 38 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and two new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The Feb. 12 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 1,415 new recoveries
- 12,496 active cases, which is down from 12,853 yesterday
- 763 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 883 reported yesterday.
- There are 295 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 299) and 204 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 211 yesterday).
- The province reported 62,012 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 2.2 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 38,345 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 10.2 million tests have been completed.
- Of the 1,076 new cases reported today, 361 are from Toronto, 210 cases are from Peel, 122 are from York Region, and 24 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
- There are 191 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 109 at retirement homes and 49 at hospitals.
- Of the cases reported today there are 165 people under 19 years old, 346 people between 20 and 39 years old, 369 people between 40 and 59 years old, 169 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 23 people over the age of 80.
Variant of concern
- The province has reported 275 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7).
- The province has reported three cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
- According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.
Vaccine update for Feb. 12:
- There were 15,605 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Feb 11, up from 14,717 on Feb. 10.
- As of 8 p.m. on Feb. 11, the province reported 442,441 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 151,282 people have been fully vaccinated, having received two doses of vaccine, which are to be given a few weeks apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 283,587 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 264,459 recoveries and 6,632 deaths, of which 3,777 were individuals living in long-term care homes.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,907.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 60.8 cases per 100,000 people from Feb. 2 to Feb. 8, which is a decrease of 21.6 per cent compared to Jan. 27 to Feb. 2 when the average weekly incidence rate was 77.6 cases per 100,000 people.
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 5,844 cases of COVID-19 with 4,916 of those cases recovered and 171 cases ending in death. There are 717 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.
According to the health unit, 133 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern UK B.1.1.7 and an additional 93 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).
The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe Muskoka is about 47 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 8.2 per cent from 51 cases per 100,000 a week ago.
