Ontario Public Health has confirmed 700 new COVID cases today, which is the highest number of cases reported in a single day in Ontario ever.
On April 24 the province reported 640 cases. Before today, that was the highest reported in a single day.
Of today's new cases, 344 were reported by Toronto Public Health, 104 were reported by Peel Public Health, and 89 were reported by Ottawa Public Health.
Ontario reports there are 418 individuals under 40 in today's list of new cases.
There is also one new death confirmed by the province – an individual between the ages of 60 and 79 years old.
Since last update, the province has reported there were 41,111 COVID tests processed and there are another 49,586 tests awaiting results. On April 24, the last highest daily case record, the province was reporting between 10,000 and 13,000 tests processed in a 24-hour period.
To-date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 50,531 cases of COVID-19 and reported 2,840 deaths and 43,127 recoveries.
There are now 4,564 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, with at least 128 people hospitalized with COVID. There are 29 COVID patients in intensive care and 17 COVID patients on ventilators in the province.
According to provincial data posted today, there are 36 more school-related cases, including 27 student cases. There are now 272 school-related cases spread across 224 schools in the province.
There are currently three cases of COVID-19 confirmed at Simcoe County District School Board schools, including Admiral Collingwood Elementary, Bear Creek Secondary School and Twin Lakes Secondary School. Classrooms have been closed at Admiral and Bear Creek. There are five confirmed school-related cases within Simcoe Muskoka District Catholic School Board facilities, and there are six classrooms closed. The schools include St. Paul's Catholic School (Alliston), St. John Vianney Catholic School (Barrie), St. Angela Merici Catholic School (Bradford), Sister Catherine Donnelly Catholic School (Barrie), and Father F.X. O'Reilly Catholic School (Tottenham).
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 842 cases of COVID-19, with 785 of those in Simcoe County. There are now 714 cases listed as recovered. There are no hospitalizations reported on the health unit website. Thirty-eight people have died.
The health unit indicates there are 72 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, and 87 active cases in the region.
