Ontario confirms 203 new COVID cases today

Public Health Ontario has reported 203 new COVID-19 cases in the province today.

This is the highest daily case increase logged this month. The number of cases reported each day in July has ranged from as low as 102 to as high as 170 until today. 

Four of the province's 34 health units reported a combined total of 154 of today's new cases.

Peel Public Health reported 57 of today's new cases. Peel remains in Stage 2 of the provincial reopening plan. 

Ottawa Public Health, which moved into Stage 3 on July 17, reported 43 new cases.

Toronto Public Health reported 30 new cases, and Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 24 new cases. Both of those health units remain in Stage 2. 

The remaining health units in Ontario reported between zero and ten cases. 

Today's provincial update also confirms another death related to COVID-19 – an individual between the ages of 60 and 79 years old. 

The province has reported a total of 2,753 deaths and 62 per cent of the people who have died were long-term care residents. 

According to Public Health Ontario, 37,942 people in the province have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began, and 33,605 of them have recovered (88.6 per cent). 

There are 1,584 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 120 people who are hospitalized. There are 36 people in intensive care and 23 people on ventilators with COVID-19 in Ontario hospitals. 

Since last report, there have been 22,974 tests processed. The average provincial incidence rate is 255.3 cases per 100,000 people in the population.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 635 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 604 of those reported in Simcoe County. 

Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 563 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 106.8 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 35 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 20 epidemiological report.
