Mom, son thankful for gift from South Simcoe police (4 photos)

Mother of boy who had scooter stolen from the park, extremely grateful for the gesture from South Simcoe Police

In October, seven-year-old Skyler from Bradford had his new electric scooter stolen after taking it to a local park.

The little boy, who has autism spectrum disorder, was crushed. His parents and neighbours did all they could to help locate the scooter, including putting up posters around the community.

After an exhaustive search, Skyler and his family accepted that they weren't going to get the scooter back and would need to save up for a new one.

But just before Christmas, South Simcoe police officers decided to play the role of Santa and came together to gift the little boy his own ride-on police car. Police Constables Raymond and Carrique had the pleasure of making the delivery to Skyler, who was over the moon with his new toy.

Over the holidays, Skyler's mother, Talya, contacted BradfordToday in hopes of sharing her message of appreciation to the South Simcoe police, and in particular Officer Elizabeth, who was very helpful in the search for the missing scooter.

"I really wanted to thank you for the love and dedication you give to our community," Talya said about the service. "They're unbelievable."

Skyler has been enjoying his gift throughout the holidays and will continue to use it, especially now during the lockdown.
