Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC is located on Barrie View Drive in the city's south end.

One of Barrie’s oldest and most successful automotive dealerships has handed over the keys.

Georgian Chevrolet Buick GMC was acquired by Canada One Auto Group from local businessman Jamie Massie earlier this year.

Massie could not be reached for comment on the sale by BarrieToday.

But Canada One Auto Group lists the south-end dealership, located at 65 Barrie View Dr., as an acquisition on its website. Automotive News Canada has also reported on the sale.

Canada One Auto Group, which is based in Edmonton, Alta., employs more than 1,800 people and has automotive dealerships in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

The company also has two Toyota dealerships in Toronto, one Lexus dealership in Toronto, a Honda dealership in Whitby, a Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC dealership in Belleville, a General Motors dealership in Richmond Hill, and a Chevrolet Buick GMC dealership in Orillia.

Massie is president, co-founder and co-owner of Georgian International, which includes automotive, aircraft and real estate businesses.

Massie received an honorary degree and a fellowship from Georgian College, and was one of the driving forces behind creating the Canadian Automotive Institute at Georgian College, which he has supported for more than 25 years.

In 2006, he also helped establish the J.C. Massie Automotive Bursary in memory of his father.

Massie is also the former owner of the Ontario Hockey League's Barrie Colts, a franchise which was founded in 1995.
