BRACEBRIDGE - Members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were called to assist at a collision on the southbound lanes of Highway 11 south of Cedar Lane, shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday morning.

A pickup truck towing three snowmobiles crashed into the ditch. The male driver fled the area on foot. Members of the Bracebridge OPP Detachment were assisted by OPP Canine Unit and Central Region Emergency Response Team in searching the area.

After fleeing on foot, he stole a canoe and paddled into Bracebridge where he was located by police and taken into custody.

Charged with possession of stolen property, breach of probation, theft and break and enter is James Rye, 52-years-old, of Huntsville, Ontario. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge today.
