NEWS RELEASE
WORD UP BARRIE
*************************

Anyone on Valentine’s Day can have a poem read to them! And a short story, or two, or three. Maybe even have a song sung to them!

Writers of all levels and genres have gathered the second Thursday of every month to read their work at Unity Market in Barrie for over four years. Talented and passionate, often hiding behind computers typing out their deepest thoughts, ideals and shaping their inner worlds, crafting them wonderfully using words in ways only each of them can.

Poets. Story tellers. Dreamers. Come to Word Up to share their work.

Our mission at Word Up is to bring pro and amateur writers in Simcoe County together in an encouraging environment to perform their original work. Writers can learn from pros to further their vocation. Anyone is welcome to enjoy, celebrate and appreciate the blood, sweat and tears put into those masterpieces.

What better day to celebrate this creative passion than on Valentine’s Day!

Each month we have one or two award-winning, published authors feature before our Open Mic. This Valentine’s Day we present Barrie’s past Poet Laureate, Bruce Meyer and poet Keith Garebian.

Bruce Meyer is the author or editor of 63 books of poetry, short fiction, non-fiction, literary journalism, anthologies, reference books, memoirs, portrait photographs, and textbooks. His most recent book is The First Taste: New and Selected Poems (2018).

Keith Garebian is the author of seven poetry collections, with an eighth due to be published in September. One of his poems from the collection Blue: The Derek Jarman Poems has been set to music for choir and instruments by American composer Gregory Spears.

Guests are encouraged to purchase our authors newest signed books and talk with them about their work.
