Editor's note: The following story has been modified from its original version to correct the start date.

There will be a full road closure on Duckworth Street beginning April 24 and remaining in place until the fall.

Mar-King Construction Company and its sub-contractors operating on behalf of the City of Barrie will be implementing the closure between Howard Crescent and Melrose Avenue.

The closure is part of the Duckworth Street Improvement Project.

Access for residents and waste collection vehicles within the closure will be maintained, according to the city. Emergency services will have access to respond within the closure, but will not be permitted to travel through it. The roadway will also be closed to buses.

Detour route in effect: Duckworth Street – Bell Farm Road – St. Vincent Street – Duckworth Street.

In a separate project. there will also be traffic disruptions on a section of Bayfield Street in downtown Barrie later in the week.

Morris Shelswell Excavating and Grading and its subcontractors will require lane closures/restrictions/shifts on Bayfield between Worsley and Wellington streets on Thursday, April 25 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., subject to weather conditions.

The city says these lane impacts are necessary to install new underground water infrastructure to supply the upcoming development at 115 Bayfield St.
