L'Abbe wins Seneca cross-country race, 16 seconds ahead of second place

The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s cross country teams took part in their first OCAA cross country race of the season on Saturday at the Seneca Invitational held in King City. 

Kaitlyn L’Abbe (Ottawa) had a tremendous day on the course posting the fastest time of the day in the women’s race completing the 6km track in a time of just 24:24 finishing 16 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor.

Jessica Roach (Orillia) also had a solid run for the Grizzlies finishing in 21st while Meaghan Evon (Barrie) was just 20 seconds behind her to finish in 26th place and Sophia Merilainen (Batawa) finished in 48th place.

Combined the Grizzlies women’s team finished in 5th place at the event.

On the men’s side it was rookie runner Michael MacInnes (Barrie) who had the best time for Georgian finishing the 8km course in a time of 30:29 to finish in 15th overall.

Jeffrey Scott (Newmarket) also had a top 20 finish while Tyler Thomson (Bracebridge) finished in 58th, William Britton (Ottawa) in 59th, Nelvin Sen (74th) and David Sun (79th).

As a group the men’s team finished in 7th place.

The Grizzlies will have a few weeks to prepare for their next race as they will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they travel to take part in the Centennial Invitational.
