Springwater is kicking off its Canada 150 Celebrations with a new art exhibit at the Township Administration Centre.

The Canada 150 Maple Leaf Mosaic was created by the BaySide Artists and features sixteen 12”x12” paintings of Canadian historical figures and events. The paintings are designed to be hung together as a mosaic of the Canadian flag and each panel commemorates one aspect of Canada’s rich history from landmarks, to people, to moments in time.

Canada 150 marks the 150th anniversary of Confederation in Canada and will be celebrated with events, activities and special projects throughout 2017.

“Springwater is proud to launch our Canada 150 Celebrations with this wonderful exhibit depicting Canada’s diverse history,” says Mayor Bill French. “We are planning additional events and projects to commemorate this significant milestone in Canada’s history and look forward to celebrating with all of Springwater.”

“The BaySide Artists wanted to do something to mark this historic occasion,” says artist Mary Lynne Atkinson. “Our artists reflected upon the significance of 1967 when Canada celebrated its centennial and wanted to create a piece that contributed to the celebrations this year. The Canada 150 Maple Leaf Mosaic showcases the stories that make Canada what it is today.”

The installation is available for viewing at the Township Administration Centre (2231 Nursery Road) during regular business hours until the end of February.
